Too nice to be working inside!

We had a hum-dinger of a storm yesterday afternoon about 3:30-5:00 - thankfully, it blew in directly from the west, so that Lydia's group didn't get clobbered while they were outside team building in the woods. It did, however, pour down in torrents, combined with a very tidy pyrotechnics display. Slowed rush hour traffic to a crawl, and completely messed up my dinner plans. We had intended on grilling salmon and pork chops outside (it was hot! 80 degrees!), but by the time I got home it was nearly 6pm, and still raining too hard to grill outside. So we splurged a bit and had Dino's instead. Which tasted really, really good....

Dad is now hooked on watching House on Tuesdays, so he & Lydia made me sit through that one. Did you watch it? I'm amused by the new private detective character.

And so today is mid-week Hump Day. Half-way through a non-descript week, no major events or occurences to report. Which is both good and bad.

I'm going to start work on a dress tonight whilst Lydia is off at confirmation class. It's this pattern:

I've got a length of butternut brown cotton jersey, a bit heavier weight than a slinky rayon. Am planning on making up the shawl collar version with full long sleeves (View A). I'm debating on whether it would look too dorky to embroider a simple linear design on the collar edge, and then place a larger design on the back between my shoulder blades. Any thoughts? You may have a better design sense on this one than I do, I'm still dithering....
I have to do a bit of alterations on this pattern, I know that in advance. Reviews of the pattern on-line indicate that the front underbust seam hits too high (not below the bust on a person who is a B cup), so I know I'll need to lower that seam, and lengthen the top piece to accommodate a larger bosom. The nice thing is that this dress doesn't have a back waist seam, so I can confine all my alterations to the front side without worrying about matching them to the back. And I very much like the two vertical "fish" darts for shaping at the back waist seam - It'll make the dress look less like a sack! Wish me luck!
Keep an eye out and your ears open for driving possibilities at Thanksgiving time - we need to figure out a way to get you down to Connecticut! I'll wager that folks will start buzzing about driving options for the break in mid to late October. There may even be an on-line ride board to help match up drivers and riders. If you can get yourself to Hartford CT, grandpa or Tom & Jen can easily pick you up there.
Good luck in your lab today!
Love,
Mom

I'm glad your weather is nice because our weather is lovely today. It is just perfect wearing a long sleeved shirt and pants without any kind of sweatshirt! I'm going to try and study outside later today.

I really like that dress pattern and my only suggestion on the embroidery is that if you do a large pattern on the back (great idea!) I would refrain from doing one on the collar. I think it might look a bit overdone and obvious. One or the other is my opinion. What kind of design were you thinking of doing?

Happy hump day
