Bad night last night. All I can say is that Dad & I won't be taking another Wednesday night out for a "date" while Lydia is at confirmation class....
Dad had managed, admirably, to stay home for dinner Sunday through Tuesday, without popping out to buy a bottle of wine. Lydia was quite relieved; he watched a lot of television with her, and they had a decent time.
Last night, however, he brought me to an Irish pub/restaurant on Excelsior Blvd. I knew things were going to be a problem when the waiter informed us that Wednesday nights were 1/2 price bottled wine nights.... of course, Dad had to order two bottles.
The usual results ensued: Dad got ticked off at something I said, accused me of being an alcoholic, told me I needed to join AA, and sulked all night. What else is new? I stayed with Lydia until she calmed down (she was all for kicking him out of the house and into Jean's spare bedroom immediately!), and then we all went to sleep.
This morning, he's acting as if nothing happened. Par for the course. But I won't be going out on Wednesdays with him again, and we won't be having any alcohol in the house. Period. He can go out alone, and argue with someone else.
On a cheerier note, I was looking through Butterick patterns (on sale at Joann's this week for $1.99) and found this:

I remember that you liked the Tibetan cloth bags we saw at the State Fair bazaar, and I've been looking for a similar pattern. Thought I might try using some of the polyester Chinese brocade I stockpiled last winter to make you a cool, slouchy bag.
What do you think of the shape of the purple velvet bag (without the damn purple roses, of course!) I think the overall rectangular shape is about right, and I liked the two scarf ties that close the top. You could put a zipper in the top instead if you liked. Any interest?
The rain finally arrived from Gustav & Hannah in Minnesota last night about 2am. Lots of thunder and lightning in the night, but not much rain. That started falling after I got to work, pounding down on the glass atrium ceiling next to my cubicle. Good for the lawn, good for the garden, but I'm afraid not so good for tonight's traffic on the commute home.
Sorry to hear that your lab this morning was kind of a bust, after you'd made the effort to get up early for it. At least it left a bit of time in your schedule for an extra cup of tea before you had to go to work.
Not to be a pest, but have you made up your mind on the meal plan (block meals vs. points) issue yet? You've got to make any changes by Monday at 4pm, unless you want to incur a penalty....consider yourself gently nagged. Let me know if it would help if we put some extra points on your card. I don't want you to feel like you can't eat a proper meal because you're running short on points or something!
Hugs,
Mom

I'm so sorry that last night's dinner was not so good. That is such a bummer. Wow no offense, I don't miss that at all! I was wondering why Dad was so keen to text me this morning telling me to stay in touch... His antics are really bothersome!
Yeah you have taken the rain away from us! haha it is pretty nice here today. It was chilly this morning but it got really sunney this afternoon and I am going to wear flipflops today. Work was okay and I think it is going to get better once the beginning of the year stuff blows past. I did add 1 more hour and I shifted my schedule so that I could attend open ice from 12-1 on tuesdays!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love the bag (without the roses)! It looks like just the thing i'm looking for. I think the best way to close it would be either a tie or a loop and an oversized button!
thanks for thinking of me

p.s. - I delt with the meal plan change on Monday. I now have 10 blocks per week and 275 points per semester.
