We didn't end up getting much done on the dining room this weekend. Kevin didn't arrive until 2pm on Saturday (the Codys bought Margaret Klosterman's BMW SUV, and it took a bit of time to get the title transferred and some repairwork finished up). He liked the floor tile we chose, but decided that in order to do it right, we needed to fill the screw hole depressions in the plywood underflooring, so we wouldn't end up with divots in the tile. Which meant, no putting down the flooring on Saturday.
Unfortunately, it was also rainy/drizzly on Saturday, so Kevin didn't want to bring over the woodwork (it's all varnished, and the rain would ruin it). So no putting up the window trim either.
In the end, Kevin agreed with my suggestion that we install the three electrical outlets and the lightswitch ourselves instead of paying Stafford Electric $350+ to do it (I thought that was absolutely ridiculous - dad has changed out all of the electric outlets in the house himself already, what's the big deal about three more?) So the guys put in the three plugs, but we have to make a trip to Home Depot for a $10 dimmer switch - a huge cost savings.
Dad's making an effort at self improvement, albeit belatedly. He stayed home on Saturday and Sunday (although he was pacing at about 4pm after the first football game yesterday!). He and Lydia managed to both hold their tongues long enough to eat civil dinners, which is also a vast improvement.
Speaking of Lydia, I had to laugh at her: after 8 weeks of no skating, she has completely lost her butt and the backs of her thighs. Skinny stick-insect legs now. I pointed this out to her, and she was horrified
Hugs to you on this chilly Monday morning - sounds like the sun is shining on your oatmeal today!
Love,
Mom
