So by now Lydia has shared the Big News that (yet once again) she has a new cell phone, courtesy of good ol' Dad. He paid full price for the phone, I refused to okay a 2-year contract extension, she has a new phone. Supposedly she's going to work off the price of payment by washing the cars this weekend, deep cleaning the bathroom, and committing to walking the dog all winter in the afternoon, but knowing how things go around here ... I rather doubt that's going to happen.
I managed to snag a highly desirable vintage licensed Disney Cinderella costume pattern for Miss Amelia's Halloween outing, and it arrived yesterday. However, I'm not so sure I'm prepared to go to this much trouble for a costume she'll wear just once, maybe twice. This sucker involves some serious sewing! Underlining for the entire bodice, internal ruffles for the sleeve supports, multiple rows of gathered tulle between satin layers for the "puffs" at the waistline, horsehair braid on the entire dress hemline to keep it pouffed out, a separate crinoline underskirt ... if I were making only ONE costume this year and had nothing else on my plate, I'd be delighted to take it on. However, laying out $50 bucks for fabrics, and spending 40+ hours on the sewing doesn't seem rational to me.
Particularly when I found a licensed Disney costume at Target for $20. Amelia won't know or appreciate the difference. I think I'll just buy the costume and ship it off as a gift. Or make the quick and dirty version from the pattern I already have. Bad Aunt Louisa! :-)
Kevin Cody is supposedly coming over today to start putting in the floor, but according to your dad, hasn't arrived yet. I'm sure that he'll be late, and that less will get done than expected, par for the course.
We're having very summer-like weather for the weekend, so I'll probably be washing windows outside. Don't want to waste this opportunity.
Lydia's going to help me pick out fabric for the shower curtain (she's pushing hard for yellow towels, so we need to find a print with a strong streak of yellow in it), and then we'll find paint to coordinate. Hopefully we'll have it done by the time you come home for Christmas.
Hope you have a great weekend. Let me know if you need me to send more fall/warm clothing - it sounds like you're getting a bit chilly up there!
Hugs,
Mom
