Monday morning blues....

It's f-ing cold (high of 59 today).

I had to put on stockings for the first time in over five months this morning.

I had to haul out the handy wrench to turn on the heater in my car this morning.

We had to close the windows on the back side of the house.

Shoot, we're going to have to haul out the snow boots before Oct. 1st at this rate!!!

It's seriously bumming me out.

I think I'm going to cut down the garden sooner rather than later this year, because I have a very bad feeling that it's going to get very cold very quickly, and I don't want to have to bundle up in a coat and mittens to cut down the garden. Or worse, have the snow fall before we get the whole thing cut down and put to bed. Not after all the work we put in this year to get the garden back in shape.

So I spent yesterday tidying up the house (washed the sheets on your bed, and put away the cotton summer sheets), and of course, doing some sewing. Couldn't manage to motivate myself to get started on this Vogue dress:

I'm planning on making it with long sleeves, in a smooth, drapey teal blue rayon-lycra jersey. Frankly, I think I'm having sewing paralysis, not having made a garment for myself in SO long!
I was really pissed yesterday, too: thought I'd stop by Joann's to pick up a skirt pattern (Butterick's were on sale for $1.99), and thus ease my way back into garment sewing. Found a great semi-circle skirt pattern, picked up some grey crepe with a cream windowpane stripe for cheap, only to unpack it at home and find that the instruction sheet was missing! So I have to go back and demand a pattern with instructions!
Not that I couldn't probably have winged it, but this particular skirt pattern used a length of grosgrain ribbon as the waist facing, rather than a waistband, and I've not used that treatment before. So I'd be happier with instructions, thank you.
So I bagged it. Contented myself with throwing together a tea cozy out of the leftover red cotton from the kitchen valances, embroidered with a steaming tea cup, and lined in heavy black wool felt and Insul-brite batting for heat retention. It's kind of an odd shape, a bit too tall for my particular tea pot, but it works great. All I can think of is Dobby dancing around naked wearing my tea cozy! I could wear it as a very odd chapeau, but it would be too voluminous for Dobby...
Sounds like it's very bad news for Tom Brady - possibly out for the entire season with a knee injury. Could be a very long football season for us Patriots fans....
Hugs,
Mom

Wow it sounds as if you are in a rut. I'm so sorry to hear that. I know exactly how you feel, and I'm not feeling that way myself but I empathize! So started classes myself this morning. It's not too bad actually. I get this really nice hour between Bio and Horticulture when I can come back here and get some little things taken care of.
It is kinda nippy here too. I am wearing pants and a short sleeved shirt but it is REALLY sunny which makes outside look picture perfect. However it looks like it might be getting cold soon. I'm going to have to try out the buses sooner rather than later if I am going to use them when it snows.
Well good luck with the whole mood thing. If I think of something humorous I'll let you know! I really like the dress by the way. I'll look really nice on you.
