Casualty on the home front

Nothing serious, but poor Lydia managed to mangle her right big toe last evening, coming back from Erin's house on her Razr scooter (and for once, she wasn't wearing flip flops!) Apparently she was zipping along merrily when she hit a patch of gravel/sand on Abbott where the alley crosses the street, just north of 60th street. (You remember that alley is not properly paved, it's just clay, sand and large gravel, rolled down flat.).

Well, the sand and gravel stopped her front wheel dead in its tracks, and she sort of lunged forward over the handlebar piece, breaking her fall with her hands so as not to bang her head. But unfortunately, her slip-on sneaker came off, and she ripped some skin off of her big toe, by the knuckle and by the corner of her toenail. Slammed down hard on the inside of her knee as well, so it blew up like a freaking balloon last night, and turned blue. Quite lovely, I assure you.

Not nearly as bad as when her friend Sabrina ripped off the top of her toes, but enough so that Lydia was quite distressed when the time came to wash everything off, and remove the dangly bits of ripped off skin. She's wearing her fur boots this morning, much softer and gentler on the toe, but the knee is still swollen. Good thing she's not skating any more, she'd be off the ice for at least a week with these injuries. Never a dull moment around here!

So fun to hear your excitement yesterday upon receipt of the latest goodie box - I'm always chuffed when I manage to hit upon just the right things to send up to you. If you like those kinds of embellished sweatshirts and hoodies, we can have a ton of fun doing some more over the Christmas holiday. I'll keep my eyes open for more door hangers, too. One for every season sounds like loads of fun!

Love,
mom

This is one of those weeks where the days seem to be really long yet it is already Thursday. Do you kind of know what I mean?

Oh dear! I really hope that Lydia feels better soon. Nothing like a booboo to just ruin the end of a week. I'm glad it is not too serious.

I really did love the sweatshirts (all of them in the goodie box but particularly the embellished one). I actually got to wear them today since it is a cold and rainy Thursday :( yuck! I think we could have a lot of fun embellishing some sweatpants too. I think I told you one of my ideas for Lydia's christmas present.

I feel like I haven't talked to you in a while. I'll try and call you soon! Like tonight :)
