No, I'm not kidding - we're having SNOW today! It's been coming down steadily since about 5am this morning, and it's actually sticking to the fallen leaves which haven't been raked up yet. The lawns are definitely blanketed in white, though the roads are too warm for the snow to stick. Blech!!! I'm really grateful that dad and I spent Tuesday afternoon raking up as many leaves as had already fallen, but we had a Mighty Wind roar through yesterday (literally tore up trees by the roots in a couple Richfield neighborhoods!), and the lawn was completely covered with leaves yesterday before the snow fell. So now we need to wait for this snowfall to melt off, hopefully by Sunday, and then rake once again to get the grass cleaned off and the garden covered. Poor Steve next door hadn't even begun to rake his backyard before the snow fell -- he's going to have a heck of a time getting that mess clean.
This is a photograph of the knitted hat pattern I mentioned this morning. See how the band is knitted as one long strip of cabling, and then the stitches for the top of the hat are picked up along one edge of the band? If you can picture it, the stitches are picked up on the WRONG side of the band, and then you knit the hat to the top, and flip the band up to double over the bottom edge; the stitches you picked up actually end up on the bottom edge, around your face. I'll keep my eyes peeled for some fun worsted weight yarn that's not itchy, maybe we can knit a matching pair of these together while you are home for Christmas break as a project?
Thanks for working it out with your Chemistry prof to move your final exam earlier; that may end up being critical for getting the lowest plane fare. I'll just wait for you to verify that your biology exam won't be on Friday, and then I'll scout out the lowest fares.....can't wait to see you again, we all miss you a ton!
Not a whole lot going on at work these days, just reviewing a boatload of sales contracts and confidentiality agreements, as per usual. Not scintillating, but these days, beggars can't be choosers; I'm just grateful to have a job.
A wee word of warning to drop in your ear: Grandma has been hinting that she's planning a couple "excursions" for your week-long visit at Thanksgiving. She's mentioned driving to the Mystic Seaport Museum, for one, and then another little town whose name escapes me at the moment. If you don't want to do anything, please feel free to say so when you get there! You're supposed to be having a break and doing whatever relaxes you, so don't feel obliged to go along with all of their plans.
Hugs from snowy Minnesota,
Mom
